David Alonso extends his World Championship lead to 97 points after IndonesiaGP

David Alonso won the Indonesian GP to take his ninth victory of the season and move closer to clinching the Moto3 title.

CFMOTO Aspar Team rider David Alonso extends his World Championship lead to 97 points after winning from the second row in Indonesia. Izan Guevara has been disqualified for not reaching the minimum regulatory weight after finishing seventh in Indonesia.

Qatar, Americas, France, Catalonia, Italy, Germany, Austria, Emilia – Romagna and, now, Indonesia. CFMOTO Aspar Team rider David Alonso has scored his ninth victory of the year at the Indonesian GP, a victory that gives him the first chance to mathematically seal the Moto3 title next weekend in Japan.

The Indonesian GP did not start in the best way for the World Championship leader, but Alonso has managed to turn it around in the best possible way. Alonso, who has started from fifth position, has always been in the leading group, which has been made of up to ten riders. The poleman, Iván Ortolá, has not been in that group, as he has had to complete three long lap penalties.

During the first part of the race, Collin Veijer has led, until he has crashed with nine laps to go. The rest of the riders in the group have fought an intense battle for the top nine positions, a fight in which they could go from leading to closing the pack in the blink of an eye. In fact, the CFMOTO Aspar Team rider was in seventh position. However, once again, Alonso has shown his magic in the final stages.

Little by little he has moved up to the front positions and, in the last lap, he has overtaken Adrián Fernández and David Muñoz to take the lead. In the final metres, the Colombian has given his rivals no chance and has added Mandalika to his list of victories, thus becoming the rider with most victories in the Moto3 history, tied with Romano Fenati.

After the win in Indonesia, Alonso has extended his World Championship lead to 97 points over his closest rival, Holgado; to 105 over the third, Ortolá, and to 107 over the fourth, Veijer. The CFMOTO Aspar Team rider will be able to mathematically seal the title in Motegi if he scores three points more than Holgado and does not lose more than five to Ortolá and more than seven to Veijer.

His teammate Joel Esteban has had a great race at the Indonesian GP and has crossed the finish line in fourteenth position in his first time in Mandalika. The CFMOTO Aspar Team rider has started from twenty-second and, after four laps, he was already in fourteenth place. From that moment on, Esteban has been involved in a great fight for the last positions in the points zone with a very large group of riders. The Spanish has given his all until the end to score two valuable points, thus fulfilling one of his objectives for the weekend.

CFMOTO Aspar Team rider Izan Guevara had achieved his best result of the season after finishing in seventh position in Mandalika. However, after the race, he has been disqualified for not reaching the minimum weight limit. The Spanish has started from nineteenth position and has completed a great comeback.

Guevara has made a great start that has allowed him to cross the finish line on the first lap in eleventh position. On the second lap he has recovered one more place and, since then, he has always remained in the top ten. Neither Guevara nor his teammate Jake Dixon have had a good Sunday in Mandalika.

The CFMOTO Aspar Team rider has started from second and had high expectations for the race. However, on the second lap, when he was fighting for fifth position, he has crashed, a crash that has ended all his chances of returning to the podium. Despite this, the British has recovered the bike and has returned to the track, although he has only been able to finish in twenty-second position.

CFMOTO Aspar already has its mind set on the Japanese GP, where it hopes to get a great result to forget the race in Indonesia.
